Picture taken July 14, 1989 Note the 'security' fence circa 1989. Typical for this type of beacon is the combination of two distinct elements: a civillian VOR (the cone on top of the building), and a military TACAN (the cylinder on top of the cone) which also provides for (civillian) DME. The about 20 antennas on the edge of the roof are not Doppler VOR antennas. They are used for a 360° beacon monitor setup. Dutch beacons such as RKN have the mounts for these antennas, but have to get around with a single monitoring antenna. Photo provided by Warren Schroeger. |
